We were thrilled to receive a Sussex Police Certificate of Merit for our Getting Through Project at Sussex Cricket Ground last week.

The project provides emotional support for families who have been informed that a member as been arrested for offences against children. Working in partnership with the police, we provide wraparound care for families who are experiencing the shock of being told that a loved-one is suspected of these crimes.

Project lead Anna Stephenson says: “Children and families are the forgotten victims of these arrests – their lives have been shattered through no fault of their own.  There is a great deal to come to terms with and we guide them through the initial stages of shock and then the ensuing trauma of negotiating the criminal justice system.”

“I suddenly felt I had a lifeline, someone I could talk to openly about how I was feeling. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders,” says one family member we have supported, “It’s so easy to forget how something like this affects the innocent party, so to have this wonderful organisation available to all those affected is a definite positive. I wouldn’t have coped without Anna.”

“We are very proud to have won this award which not only recognises the hard work of our dedicated team to support families who have nowhere else to turn but also demonstrates the importance of partnership work,” says CEO Cat Arnold.
